A Media Post: The Muppet Movie and Tarzan (There are spoilers for Tarzan)

For some reason I really enjoy posting about media I have seen/read/played so here is another one of those posts so I can take a break from studying.

Finals are progressing nicely; I think I'll take the final (and most dreaded) final tomorrow evening. I'd take it sooner but at the moment I cannot fathom the idea of studying for it. I should recover by tonight and get back on the ball.

So, I saw the Muppet Movie in theaters. I am writing about it now to recommend that you go see it. I enjoyed it.

That's all I'm going to say about it though. Its complimentary 6 months of obligatory plot silence have not yet passed.*

I just read Tarzan last night. It's what I did because I couldn't handle studying after two solid days of reading, memorizing, and test taking. I read the majority of the book in one sitting and loved it. I really love the book.

It's odd; the writing style is curious and the assumptions are sometimes strange, but it's just such a fun read! Tarzan is like the ultimate Mary Sue--except he's the hero of the story.

Reading the book generally makes me want to watch the movie, although the plot shifts Disney makes do become somewhat jarring. I just like watching him jump around like a wild thing, and I love how they handle his first encounter with Jane.

I need to obtain this movie so I have it onhand for the next time I read the book. Since this is my 4th or 5th time reading the book, I clearly enjoy it enough to repeat it again later and should plan ahead for it. This time was a little different for two reasons:

1. I read it on my Nook. Huzzah! Huzzah! I am loving this Nook.

SPOILER ALERT IF YOU DON'T WANT THE BOOK SPOILED FOR SOME REASON SKIP THIS PARAGRAPH
2. I stopped at page 176. I would have stopped right when he rescues Jane from the fire in America but I read a little further to where he tries to strangle the man buying her. I cannot bear to read the part where she accepts Clayton and leaves Tarzan in the dust. I mean, how dare she! And how dare the author so clearly leave it up to a sequel to resolve matters! ...Seriously though there is no reason for her to accept Clayton. She even clearly indicates that ever since she met the man in the jungle she's been in love with him, and months have passed since then without her thoughts changing. His weak pathetic argument in the car is ridiculous and her sudden agreement when her lover is 10 feet away is convoluted. Has she never heard of sleeping on it? I mean...How? Why? It's like they rewrote her character and motivations in the last 10 pages!

So despite that obvious link to a sequel and desire to enrage fans of the era who have to wait for said sequel, it is an amazing book I recommend reading. Certainly give it a try if you haven't read it already; it gives the movie new depth.

For those of you still reading (you are amazing if you are not me and you are still reading this) here's how my finals have been so far. I can't give final scores because I don't have the final scores for any of them yet:

CALLIGRAPHY
Time spent studying: 0 hours
Time spent test taking: 5 minutes
Score: Probably an A

PERSONALITY THEORY
Time spent studying: 8-10 hours
Time spent test taking: 1.5 hours
Score: Probably around 85% overall.

ABNORMAL PSYCHOLOGY
Time spent studying: 3-4 hours
Time spent test taking: 30 minutes
Score: Probably around 85%? Not sure. There were a couple questions that confused me, which is sad because this is my favorite class and subject matter.

DEVELOPMENTAL PSYCHOLOGY: ADOLESCENCE
Time spent studying: ???
Time spent test taking: ???
Score: ???

I'll be taking my last final tomorrow, and then I'll be free of school for 2 1/2 weeks. Yay!

*All new media everywhere should have 6 months spoiler proof, where you do not discuss the plot unless you are certain that everyone in the room has already seen/read/played it. After that you should be able to mention the title and then proceed to spoil it carefully--if someone in the room still hasn't seen it they can stop you. After a year or two all bets are off.

Was there a sequel ever written to Tarzan? I'd love to read it. I read the book years ago and have been waiting for the sequel to fall into my hands ever since.

There are 23 sequels that I know of. You can find a list of the sequels here:

And you can get them for free here:
